Family Time

This weekend was such a wonderful time off from work! We spent our time with my parents who made the 5 (turned 7) hour drive to join us for Thanksgiving, and it was so great! We spent a night playing games, dinners making toasts and days shopping and being outside.
On thanksgiving day, before my mom and I began all the cooking, we went to the park and played frisbee - I love things like this! It's such a tradition to do something outside in the sun and 70 degrees made it perfect.

Matt and I took it easy on Sunday night and Monday (recovering from the 6 hours my mom and I shopped!) and we spent some time at a cute little dock area I love. I don't think its supposed to be any sort of attraction, but there is this shrimp boat I cannot get over. It's a favorite place of mine in Savannah, definitely my favorite boat - you just can't get a bad picture of it!

Time together with my parents is so sweet, loved every minute of time with them. Thanks for coming all the way down south, mom and dad!!

Isn't that boat the cutest!!? What did you do over thanksgiving? Visit any of your favorite places?

Thanks

It's Thanksgiving, I love this holiday! Not only is it always close, if not on, my birthday, (b-day post coming soon...) but it's fall, a lot of great food, and my favorite, lots of quality time with family.

This year is a bit different for us than any other because of schedules and distance between all of us now. So, it's just my man and my parents getting together and... I'm hosting! Yes, I am nervous. Thanks to my awesome sis, I'm almost convinced I can do it without blinking. (yea, shes that good)
But really, I'm thrilled to have my parents come stay with us, and for us to treat them as guests for once! As I was telling my brothers, its very apparent this year that we are all adults now. Yep, sounds silly, of course we are, we've all been out of the house for 7 years! But, the fact that we're not going to be together is evidence of this. It's tough, but it's so right at the same time.
(Thank God for Facetime and Skype!!!)

Finding what to be thankful for is one of my favorite exercises. I can remember from when I was younger my mom used to listen to my complaints and whining, then say, "its time to think of 3 positive things." And she meant it. I would have to come up with at least 3 things I was thankful for - it totally changed my attitude. Now I do this with my husband, ... and friends. Sounds sort of annoying, its not! I can't wait to implement this with my own kids one day. Finding something positive in crappy situations can change your perspective in a flash.

So in the spirit of the holiday, here is what I'm thankful for:

- A new job, might not always be thrilling, but I am so thankful to be treated well and to be needed.
- The best husband I could ever have. Matt continually amazes me with his gentleness and love, (uh, and brains) so thankful for a man I can trust with all I have. I love that I get to be married to him forever.
- A car. Obvious right? Well let me tell you, that one day way back when our car wouldn't start and I had to bike to work and show up a sweaty, wind blown, exhausted, hot mess (on my 3rd day of work!!) was not cool. I am forever grateful for a working car battery.
- My sister - Not only can I feel her hugs from over 1,500 miles away, but she makes me laugh, cheers me up, encourages me, shares her wisdom and experience, listens and she just gets me.
- The future, because it only gets closer and brighter every day.
- Life - It's a gift, and I'm challenged to live it that way. My days are not my own.
- New friends. We've been in Savannah over a year now, but I can finally say we have some great friends here. Sad to lose some of them to other states and countries, but I know they were put in our life for a reason and I am so thankful.
- The big old sun. They say all you need is shelter, water and food to survive, but I have to have sunshine. Lots of it! Good thing we live in this sunny little city for now.

I'd love to hear what you're thankful for! And next time you get in a slump, try out the thankfulness exercise I mentioned, it will totally help. You're allowed to be thankful other than just thanksgiving :)

Like & Love

Here's a few things I've been loving lately:

my own

For some reason, fall makes me want to switch my routine, wardrobe and rearrange my house. Those things aren't always realistic, but sure is fun to find some inspiration. What inspires you in the new seasons?

1st blog post ever!!

So, here it is, my first blog post. Kind of a big deal, to me anyway. I've had the idea for a blog for a while now, but didn't tell anyone for a long time. Especially my husband, only because he is so supportive that I'd have one in the next five minutes, so I had to keep it in. Once I got it out, I felt better, confident in the idea. But that was also a few months ago. So, here it is, a long time coming and its not so bad at all!

I'm excited to finally have a place to share parts of our exciting little life together. To start off, here are a few phone pics (nope, not the best quality) of our weekend together.

Its finally fall here! (we're both wearing short sleeves)

I love that I live somewhere with palm trees... in the middle of the park! Over a year later and I still get excited about them. Oh, yes, and the beach that I can go to any time.
